The Israeli authorities recently convened an inter-ministerial committee two years early to review the country’s stringent gas export quotas.

An executive summary of the committee’s recommendations seen by MEES recommends that restrictions on gas exports be eased given that global moves against fossil fuels mean the “window” for gas sales is “closing in 2-2.5 decades.” Current rules tightly limit exports by stipulating that at least 50% of fields over 200bcm (7tcf) be reserved for the domestic market.
