Kuwait’s Ministry of Finance has published the final accounts for the 2020-2021 fiscal year (to 31 March) registering a record deficit of $35.5bn, nearly triple the figure from the previous year (see table). The figure is the highest ever and marks the seventh consecutive deficit: the last time the gulf petro-state enjoyed a surplus was for 2013-14. Cumulative deficit since stand at a whopping $117.5bn.
