Oil gets all the attention in Libya. But with an estimated 1.2bn cfd of current sales gas output, the North Africa country’s gas resources should not be overlooked. And its plans to increase gross output to around 4.1bn cfd deserve closer attention.

Current production comes mainly from the Mellitah Oil & Gas (Eni 50%, NOC 50%) Wafa gas-condensate field in the Ghadames Basin as well as its offshore Bahr Essalam field (see map, MEES, 11 June). But significant associated gas is produced in the Sirte Basin. Waha’s 180mn cfd Faregh field expansion is a key recent addition, though production has been dogged by forced shut-ins and technical issues (MEES, 29 January). (CONTINUED - 714 WORDS)
