Iran’s main uranium enrichment facility located 50 meters below the ground at Natanz suffered an explosion on Sunday 11 April. With fingers pointing to an Israeli role, Tehran’s head of the country’s Atomic Energy Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi, has labelled the attack “nuclear terrorism.”

US intelligence officials speaking anonymously to the New York Times indicated that the explosion “completely destroyed” the internal power system that operates centrifuges at the site. Iranian parliament research centre head, Alireza Zakani, said to local media that the explosion “eliminated” Iran’s ability to carry out operations on site. Enrichment at Natanz is expected to be delayed by 9 months but Tehran has vowed to replace damaged centrifuges. (CONTINUED - 315 WORDS)
