Egypt’s 5mn t/y Segas LNG export facility at Damietta on the Mediterranean coast was meant to see its first cargo exported in over eight years this week but MEES understands the plant is experiencing production issues. A cargo was set to depart 17 February on the ‘Vivit Americas’ according to data intelligence firm Kpler, but the tanker has now been sent to the 7.2mn t/y ELNG plant at Idku where it is scheduled to load as MEES goes to press. MEES learns that Vitol was to be the offtaker of the cargo at Damietta and likely the export from Idku will be a replacement.
Having been mothballed for over eight years it is not surprising that the plant is having issues restarting. Operator, Italian firm Eni negotiated a deal in late 2020 to restart the plant in Q1 of this year, with two cargoes scheduled to depart between 14 February and 1 March (MEES, 29 January).
