On October 18, a fire erupted at the 347,000 b/d Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery in Kuwait leading to minor injuries according to Waleed Khaled al-Bader, CEO of operator Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC). KNPC said on Twitter that the fire started at atmospheric residue desulfurizer (ARDS) unit number 42, one of three such units with a combined capacity of 195,000 b/d. The fire was swiftly put out and KNPC says the impact on output was minimal. Unit 42 was not a part of the recently completed $15.6bn clean fuels program (CFP) upgrading of Mina Al-Ahmadi and the neighboring 454,000 b/d Mina Abdulla (MEES, 1 October).
