Egypt’s Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker on 14 October was in Athens to sign an MoU with his Greek counterpart Kostas Skrekas to connect the two countries’ electricity grids while just three days later he was in Nicosia to sign a similar deal with Cypriot Energy Minister Natasa Pilides.

Both deals appear ambitious, as the subsea electricity cables would need to extend approximately 600km to Crete and 500km to Cyprus. No details were provided on the capacity of the lines or how funding would be raised for the projects. (CONTINUED - 129 WORDS)
