Italian firm Eni this week announced a new gas discovery offshore Egypt, on the Abu Madi West license (Eni 75%op, BP 25%) in the shallow waters of the Nile Delta. The Nidoco NW-1 well was drilled in 16ms of water depth, 5km offshore and 4km north of the firms’ 1bn cfd Nooros field discovered in July 2015.

The latest find takes gas in place within the “Great Nooros Area” to over 4tcf, Eni says. Also nearby is the BP-operated Baltim Southwest field (Eni 50%op, BP 50%), and the recently discovered Eni-operated Bashrush (Eni 37.5%op, BP 37.5%, Total 25%), itself located just 1km from Baltim South West and 12km north west of Nooros (MEES, 3 July).
