Shell CEO Ben van Beurden was in Doha this week for talks with Qatari Minister of State for Energy Saad Sherida al-Kaabi. The pair “signed a Shareholder Agreement today [18 September] to establish a company that would provide global LNG bunkering services.” This follows a 2017 framework agreement to develop global LNG bunkering facilities (MEES, 16 June 2017), which itself followed a 2016 MoU to explore regional LNG bunkering opportunities.
There has been little, if any, concrete progress from the initial agreements, but now Qatar Petroleum says that “the new company’s principal business activities will include the procurement of LNG, setting up LNG bunkering infrastructure (storage and bunker vessels) at various strategic locations around the world, and facilitating the sale of LNG as a marine fuel to end customers around the world.” (CONTINUED - 204 WORDS)
