Algerian state utility Sonelgaz’ SKTM subsidiary last week awarded five hybrid solar projects totaling 50MW to four local and three Chinese companies. The firms will integrate solar panels into nine existing diesel plants scattered throughout the desert south. The off-grid plants are expected to cost around AD10bn ($83mn).

“At completion, this project will save Algeria an annual 20,600 tons of gasoil and $14mn,” Sonelgaz CEO Chaher Boulakhras said at the signing ceremony on 15 August. (CONTINUED - 171 WORDS)
