President Hassan Rohani was summoned to parliament on 28 August for questioning – following his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as only the second sitting president forced to appear before parliament in the Islamic Republic’s history. The unravelling of the nuclear deal and return of US sanctions has destroyed Mr Rohani’s centerpiece achievement leaving him critically wounded and vulnerable to hardline opponents.
