Q2 saw rare good news for Canadian minnow Oryx’s portfolio in Iraqi Kurdistan. The firm has struggled with geological setbacks. Having planned to reach 50,000 b/d from its Hawler block by 2015, it has struggled to keep output at around 3,000 b/d. But Q2 saw a record high 4,400 b/d and CEO Vance Querio says July output averaged 6,100 b/d. Hawler output may be small and significantly less than originally envisioned, but any gains are welcome as the KRG seeks to get back on an even keel. The firm plans an expanded H2 drilling program, although this may necessitate raising debt or equity capital in the range of $10-15mn.
