Egypt is beginning EPC work on a naphtha upgrading unit at Assiut refinery. The project aims to boost the country’s stagnant gasoline output to help meet rising domestic consumption.

A $1.5bn upgrade to the 4.5mn tons/year (90,000 b/d) Assiut oil refinery, operated by the Assiut Oil Refining Company (Asorc) subsidiary of state petroleum firm EGPC, is set to begin after the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was signed at the end of August.
