Algeria’s LNG Sales Shrink Further, Piped Gas Jumps 49%

LNG exports from Algeria slipped for the third consecutive year to 11.57mn tons (16.2bcm) in 2016, squeezed by a 49% rise in pipeline sales to Italy and Spain to 34.9bcm. But overall gas exports jumped 25% to 51.1bcm thanks to an increase in piped exports resulting from stronger demand for pipeline gas in Europe.

The Algerian government announced a modest 0.8% increase in oil and gas production in the first nine months of 2016 ( MEES, 17 February ). New gas production is due online this year, but keeping pace with domestic consumption and field reinjection needs will be difficult, leaving little upside for a further increase in overall export volumes.
