Dubai’s ruler Shaikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktum has inaugurated the second phase of the solar park named in his honour being developed 50km south of Dubai city at Seih al-Dalal. Dubai utility Dewa plans to increase the solar park’s capacity to 5GW by 2030 for an anticipated investment of Dh50bn ($13.6bn).

The 200MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant was developed by Saudi private firm Acwa Power in partnership with Spanish contractor TSK at a cost of Dh1.2bn ($327mn) as an independent power producer project. The 13MW first phase of the solar park was connected to the grid in 2013. (CONTINUED - 297 WORDS)
