Kuwait plans to increase its gas-fired power capacity having recently committed to building a permanent LNG import facility. Following the award of the LNG terminal project in March, the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kapp) is now studying proposals from three consortiums for construction of a second power and desalination plant at the Al-Zour North site.

Al-Zour North 2, for which Kapp has yet to give an official schedule, will require 210mn cfd of gas to generate 1.8GW in combined cycle mode, MEES estimates. Of this, 60MW will be required to power the desalination plant. The two projects planned at Al-Zour North, with their combined 3.3GW of capacity, will add 380mn cfd to Kuwait’s gas demand once fully operational. (CONTINUED - 643 WORDS)
