Egypt’s state generator EEHC has awarded deals to convert two open cycle gas-fired power plants for combined cycle operation. Egypt’s Orascom Construction will convert the 1GW Assiut and 500MW Damietta West gas-fired power plants from simple to combined cycle operation through the addition of three heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). This will raise capacity by 50% – ie to a total of 2.25GW – without burning additional fuel.

Orascom values its EPC share of the project at $420mn, with Orascom also required to arrange competitive financing on behalf of EEHC. US firm General Electric (GE) is separately providing the three 250MW HRSGs. (CONTINUED - 101 WORDS)
