Israel Powergen Capacity Nears 17GW With Completion Of Haruvit CCGT

Private power producers have added 7% to Israel’s electricity generating capacity this year. Generators are burning a little more gas at the expense of coal, but doubts hang over further domestic Israeli gas supply.

France’s Alstom and Israeli independent power producer (IPP) Dalia Power Energies have inaugurated the 835MW Haruvit combined cycle gas turbine power plant at Tzafit, 10km west of Jerusalem. Completion of the plant increases Israel total power generating capacity by over 5% to 16.76GW.

Alstom built the plant for Dalia on a turnkey basis, from initial design – which began in late 2012 – to commissioning. The two-unit plant was brought online in two stages, with the first beginning commercial operations in July. (CONTINUED - 743 WORDS)
