Israel Reaches Final Hurdle Before Gas Outline Implementation

Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu needs to consult the country’s parliamentary (Knesset) Economics Committee as a final hurdle, before he is able to implement Article 52 of the country’s anti-trust law, enabling the passage of a gas outline seen as essential to rebooting the country’s upstream.

The controversial article enables the normal monopoly rules to be bypassed in the name of “national security.”

Mr Netanyahu has now assumed control of the economy ministry as he bids to ram through the gas outline which had been delayed by former Economy Minister Aryeh Deri’s refusal to implement Article 52 (MEES, 13 November). (CONTINUED - 1204 WORDS)
