Anglo-Dutch major Shell is expected to start supplying Jordan this July with 150mn cfd of gas, or about 1mn tons/year of LNG, Energy Minister Muhammad al-Hamid has announced. This was finalized last week in a five-year agreement between Shell and Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) to deliver the LNG to a floating and regasification unit (FSRU) off the Jordanian port of ‘Aqaba on the Red Sea coast. Under the agreement Shell will be paid around $500mn per year. Earlier reports said the Shell-Jordan LNG deal would involve volumes of as high as 590mn cfd (MEES, 19 December 2014).

The FSRU receiving terminal is being built by the Bermuda-registered Golar LNG, which had previously said that the Golar Eskimo FSRU would be completed by the end of 2014 and enter into service in early 2015. Golar was awarded the $445mn contract to install and operate the FSRU, with a storage capacity of 160,000 cu ms, in mid-2013 (MEES, 9 August 2013). (CONTINUED - 579 WORDS)
