Will Fujairah Get With The LNG Bunkering Trend?

The Port of Rotterdam, which competes with Singapore and the UAE’s Fujairah for the position of top bunkering hub, announced this week that it would offer LNG as a bunker fuel as of 1 July. Though there are many obstacles ahead, LNG’s star is rising in the global transport fuel slate.

Rotterdam, boosted by a €40mn EU grant, says it hopes to become a global LNG bunkering hub and that its move to offer LNG as a bunker fuel will boost the product’s position in the bunkering market.

Meanwhile, Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine, a joint venture between Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) and Singapore’s Keppel, signed a deal this week to retrofit Greek ferries to run on LNG. (CONTINUED - 889 WORDS)
