Kuwait’s Amir visited Iran this week, the first such trip since Iran’s 1979 revolution. While the headline ‘deal’, for Kuwait to import Iranian gas is unlikely to materialize anytime soon, the meeting has significant regional geopolitical implications.
Several key Kuwaiti ministers, including the oil, foreign, and finance ministers, accompanied the Amir Shaikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al Sabah on his cross-Gulf sojourn. He discussed cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sector with Iranian President Hassan Rohani. This was followed by a meeting between Kuwait’s Minister of Oil, ‘Ali al-‘Umair, and his Iranian counterpart, Bijan Zanganeh. (CONTINUED - 1162 WORDS)
