Saudi International Petrochemical (Sipchem) and Korean partner Hanwha plan to start up their Jubail 200,000 tons/year ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant by March.

Sipchem told the Saudi stock exchange on 30 December that the joint venture (Sipchem 75%, Hanwha 25%) had completed installing and testing key equipment and modules in readiness for a phased start-up. Sipchem says the SR3bn ($800mn) plant will be supplied with ethylene feedstock by SABIC affiliate Jubail United; vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) feed will come from Sipchem’s International Vinyl Acetate Company affiliate.
