• Syria has stopped purchasing electricity from Turkey, said Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz, according to Beirut’s Daily Star. Mr Yildiz said Turkey is willing to resume supplies if requested, and could give no reason for the cancelation. Turkey usually provides Syria with around 20% of its electricity.

• Canada’s GeoGlobal Resources on 20 September started drilling the Sara-1 well 60 km offshore Israel using the Homer Ferrington rig. The well is located in 1,400ms of water and has a target depth of 4,000 ms. The consortium that owns the Sara license – ILDC Energy (41.6%), Israel Land Development Company (5%), Modiin Energy (29.2%), IDB Holding (5.6%) and GeoGlobal (5%) – also holds the Myra license, where a dry hole was reported in early September after drilling to a depth of 5,200ms.
