Saudi Energy is overseeing the conversion of 22.3GW oil-fired power plants to run on gas by 2030 as part of the Liquid Displacement Program (LDP). Phase One conversion of the 3.7GW PP10 power plant at Riyadh was completed last year, converting half of its turbines to run on gas (MEES, 1 May). The company said in its H1 results call this week that work on converting the 2.8GW Rabigh II plant to gas is approaching commissioning, after work began in 3Q 2025.
The conversion strategy is progressing, with contracts for converting the 2.8GW Jeddah South and 2.9GW Shuqaiq power plants into dual-fuel plants awarded last month (MEES, 17 July). (CONTINUED - 105 WORDS)
