Cairo has been scrambling in recent years to offset rapid decline rates from its offshore Mediterranean gas heartland, and the successes have to-date been moderate at best. It will be buoyed by events this week, as on 7 April Italian major Eni announced “a significant gas and condensate discovery.”

The Denise W 1 exploration well, located in the Temsah concession, was drilled by the El-Qaher II drillship and preliminary estimates indicate there is around 2tcf of gas in place and 130mn barrels of associated condensates, Eni said. (CONTINUED - 848 WORDS)
