Just months after Addis Ababa inaugurated its controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) (MEES, 12 September 2025), US President Donald Trump has waded back into the 15-year dispute over Nile water security, offering to mediate between Ethiopia and the downstream states of Egypt and Sudan.
