Iraq is becoming increasingly entangled in US sanctions on Iran, with the US Treasury this week designating a second Iraqi businessman for facilitating trade in sanctioned Iranian oil. The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Waleed Khaled Hameed al-Samarra’i on 2 September, along with two linked UAE-based firms; Babylon Navigation DMCC and Galaxy Oil FZ LLC.
OFAC also designated nine shuttles operated by Babylon Navigation, at least seven of which are used for shuttling Iraqi fuel oil volumes from onshore terminals to the Khor al-Zubair lightering area offshore. (CONTINUED - 987 WORDS)
