The Mena region faces a tectonic shift in its power sector in the coming decade. In a recently released report on the future of electricity in the region, the IEA outlines a rapidly evolving power sector matching an unprecedented surge in power demand to 2035.

Speaking to MEES on 17 September, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol says: “We are seeing globally electricity demand growing very strongly — much stronger than we have seen historically. There is a recognition that China and India are the major centers of global electricity demand growth, but one of the blind spots when it comes global electricity demand growth centers is the Mena region.” (CONTINUED - 1691 WORDS)
