Mauritania is looking to capitalize on its offshore gas reserves to build out important domestic infrastructure. LNG exports have now started following the late-2024 start-up of the BP-operated 2.3mn t/y GTA project, and Mauritania is now pressing ahead with plans to develop new gas-fired power capacity. In May, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Mohamed Ould Khaled announced plans to add 550MW of gas-fired capacity to be fueled by gas sourced from GTA.

His ministry has received offers to build a 230MW gas-fired CCGT plant, which are now under review, and it is also mulling whether to launch a public tender for the project, MEES understands. (CONTINUED - 347 WORDS)
