Crude oil processing capacity at Iraq’s West Qurna-1 (WQ-1: PetroChina 32.7%op, Basra Oil 22.7%, Pertamina 20%, Itochu 19.6%, Oil Exploration Co 5%) increased from 550,000 b/d to over 750,000 b/d following the start-up of two new treatment trains on 2 November.
The project brings WQ-1 closer to its end-2028 capacity target of 800,000 b/d (MEES, 24 January). WQ-1 has a plateau target of 1.1mn b/d. Iraq’s southern oilfields require large amounts of water to reverse declines and maintain output (MEES, 24 October).
