Fresh off the back of its first oil and gas bid round in a decade, Algeria state upstream regulator Alnaft says the country is preparing to launch a new licensing round in the first half of 2026.

Speaking at African Energy Week in Cape Town this week, Alnaft’s recently appointed president Samir Bekhti announced plans to offer new licensing opportunities focused on unlocking Algeria’s “huge potential,” which includes an estimated 707tcf of unconventional gas resources.
