Iraq has struggled for years to increase its crude export capacity in the country’s south and remove bottlenecks that have held back upstream production capacity expansion (MEES, 24 October and MEES, 18 April). And while crude remains the country’s primary export concern, its niche refined products trade is increasingly causing Iraq geopolitical troubles due to its proximity to Iran.
The majority of Iraqi products exports consists of straight-run fuel oil (SRFO) which data intelligence firm Kpler puts at around 275,000 b/d so far in 2025 (see chart). (CONTINUED - 806 WORDS)
