Results are in for Kuwait’s fourth parliamentary elections in the last four years, which were held on 4 April. Opposition candidates secured 29 seats in the 50-seat body, matching the result of the previous elections held in June 2023 (MEES, 23 June 2023). As customary, PM Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah tendered his cabinet’s resignation on 6 April to Emir Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Sabah and is expected to present his second cabinet in the upcoming weeks (MEES, 19 January). However, there is little expectation that relations between the new executive and legislative branches will prove more conducive to implementing much-needed economic reform than in previous years.
