Primarily known as a global LNG exporter, Qatar set an all-time high for refined product exports in August with total volumes of 452,000 b/d according to data intelligence firm Kpler, up more than 100,000 b/d year-on-year. This swell was in part helped by strong exports of naphtha, a mainstay for Qatar, but also record gasoil/diesel exports which hit a new high of 100,000 b/d.

Most of these bumper gasoil exports were bound for Europe, an increasingly important outlet for the region’s refined products over the past year. Europe has traditionally relied on Russian oil products, but an embargo which came into force in February has left the continent seeking volumes from elsewhere (MEES, 20 January). Qatari gasoil/diesel exports to Europe have exceeded 30,000 b/d every month since February, having only rarely hit that mark previously. (CONTINUED - 979 WORDS)
