Tunisia’s energy ministry says it will launch a 2GW solar PV bid round in July as part of its upgraded target of meeting 35% of its power production from renewables by 2030. While gas-fired power plants still account for almost all of the country’s electricity generation (MEES, 10 June), around 500MW worth of solar PV projects are finally moving ahead and will make a notable difference to Tunisia’s power sector over the next couple of years (MEES, 18 February). Tunisia’s on-grid renewables capacity consists of 242MW wind, 63MW hydro, and just 21MW of solar PV.
