Morocco state power firm ONEE said this week that under-construction coal storage facilities at Jorf Lasfar, where 2.05GW of coal-fired power generation capacity is located, would be commissioned by the end of the year.

The ‘Jorf Lasfar Coal Park’ will have a capacity of 410,000 m3 and be able to store up to three months’ worth of coal to supply Morocco’s “various thermal power stations.” Morocco’s coal-based power generation capacity stands at 4.1GW and in 2021 accounted for around 69% of the country’s output (MEES, 25 March).
