BP and partner Kosmos, holders of virtually all of the 100tcf of discovered gas reserves off Mauritania and northern Senegal, are increasingly confident of developing a sizable part of the assets sooner rather than later.

BP CFO Murray Auchincloss told his firm’s Q1 earnings call earlier this month that “we have a lot of options to bring gas forward to help Europe. Obviously, Tortue in Mauritania and Senegal. The first phase is ongoing. We are looking at the second phase that would help [supply gas to Europe].” This expansion phase “is only improved by today’s price environment,” CEO Bernard Looney adds.
