Iraq’s oil minister Ihsan Ismaael sent a letter to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) dated 24 March detailing a “procedures” roadmap for a central government takeover of Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil and gas sector. The move comes nearly two months after the country’s highest court deemed Kurdistan’s independent oil sector unconstitutional (MEES, 18 February). Thus far, the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Erbil has given Baghdad the silent treatment even after a previous 5 March oil ministry letter demanded a negotiating team be nominated.
