US major Chevron’s first ever offshore Egypt well has struck gas MEES learns. The Nargis-1X well, located on the Nargis offshore block (Chevron 45%op, Eni 45% and state firm Tharwa 10%), has discovered 3.5tcf of gas, according to a MEES source. The well is being drilled by the Stena Forth drillship (MEES, 4 November).

MEES understands that Nargis-1X is still drilling having encountered gas at its primary target depth of 3,980ms. The discovery will be a huge boost to Egypt which has seen its output fall from a peak of 7.2bn cfd last September to 6.5bn cfd for Q3 (MEES, 11 November). (CONTINUED - 319 WORDS)
