Abu Dhabi is firming up its plans to develop a “world-scale” blue ammonia facility by 2025. The Fertiglobe JV of Egypt’s OCI (52%) and Adnoc (48%) has signed an agreement for a blue ammonia plant at the Ta’ziz Industrial Chemicals Zone at Ruwais, with FID planned for next year. Ta’ziz is a JV between Adnoc and state holding firm ADQ.

Ammonia has always been seen as an anchor project at the $5bn under-development Ta’ziz zone since it was launched late last year (MEES, 13 November 2020). Adnoc announced last month that it “will advance a world-scale ‘blue’ ammonia production facility in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi” with a planned 1mn t/y capacity. The state energy giant added that the blue ammonia plant “has moved to the design phase, will be developed at the new Ta’ziz industrial ecosystem and chemicals hub in Ruwais” (MEES, 28 May).
