US unconventional specialist EOG Resources plans back-to-back wells in Oman’s Block 36 by the end of the year. In the firm’s Q3 results, EOG says that “drilling commenced on one exploratory well in the third quarter of 2021. EOG plans to drill one additional exploratory well in Block 36 by the end of 2021.”

EOG entered Oman in September 2020 when it replaced Canada’s Apex at Block 36 in the far southwest of the sultanate. Given EOG’s unconventional expertise, it was no surprise to see EOG Chairman and CEO William Thomas highlight “the opportunity to evaluate this oil-rich basin for potential horizontal development” (MEES, 18 September 2020).
