Turkish contractor Enka says it is “about to start construction” on two gas turbine power plants in western Libya, which on completion will add about 1.3GW of capacity and help alleviate a severe power deficit. Enka says it plans to complete the 650MW Misrata and 690MW Tripoli West plants by 2022. But this will largely depend on Tripolitania's level of political stability and security.

“The Misrata project is based on a power island configuration for two SGT5-PAC 4000F Siemens combustion turbine generator units, whereas the Tripoli West project is based on a power island configuration for four SGT5-PAC 2000E Siemens combustion turbine generator units,” the firm said in a 6 January press release.
