Iran’s President Hassan Rohani officially launched construction of the 1,100km Goureh-Jask crude oil pipeline on 25 June. The pipeline will link Iran’s crude oil production facilities to an under-construction export terminal at Jask, a strategic location outside of the Hormuz chokepoint.

Both Mr Rohani and oil minister Bijan Zanganeh reiterated that the export terminal will be operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021). The Jask terminal will have storage capacity of 10mn barrels through twenty 500,000-barrel tanks, and export capacity of 1mn b/d via three offshore single point moorings (SPMs) (MEES, 17 April).
