Israeli politics has been in stasis for a year, after elections in April and then September failed to produce any coalition with a majority in the 120 seat Knesset (MEES, 27 September 2019).

In the most recent elections earlier this month, Mr Netanyahu’s Likud Party won the largest number of seats - 36. But his right-wing bloc, which also includes the Shas, Yamina and United Torah Judaism (UTJ) parties, only managed to obtain 58 seats, three short of an outright majority (MEES, 6 March).
