Abu Dhabi state renewables firm Masdar announced on 12 October an agreement with local real estate developer Miral to develop the emirate’s largest rooftop solar project, a 7MW installation at Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi on Yas Island. Masdar’s contract is for design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance.
The plant is scheduled to be operational in Q4 2021. Completed Masdar rooftop solar projects include a 1MW installation in Masdar City and the Abu Dhabi Solar Rooftop project, which installed 2.3MW of capacity across 11 government buildings. Abu Dhabi has not set a target figure for rooftop solar capacity, but introduced energy netting regulations in January 2017 to encourage development of systems up to 5MW (MEES, 15 February 2019).
