A key contributor to Iraq’s crippling power shortages, particularly in the hot summer months (MEES, 19 July) is insufficient gas feedstock for its power plants. And the key cause of this is Iraq’s sky-high flaring rates which sees it burn off more than 1.6bn cfd because it lacks the infrastructure to handle and process the volumes produced alongside oil.

Iraq aims to both eliminate flaring and produce 3bn cfd sales gas by end-2021. This is a key priority for Iraq’s oil ministry, which is at last making headway in advancing essential contracts. (CONTINUED - 838 WORDS)
