Oman’s Duqm Refinery & Petrochemical Industries Company (DRPIC), a JV of Oman state upstream firm OOC and Kuwait state firm KPI, this week awarded front end engineering design (Feed) work to UK’s Wood Group for a petchems complex to be integrated with the under-construction 230,000 b/d Duqm refinery.
Besides a 1.6mn t/y mixed-feed cracker and chemicals units including polyethylene and polypropylene, Feed scope includes an NGL extraction plant in central Oman and a 230km pipeline to carry NGLs to the Duqm complex. Technology selection and licensing will be completed early in the Feed process.
DRPIC says the cracker will produce ethylene from Duqm refinery product streams including LPG, naphtha and off-gases as well as NGLs delivered to the plant by pipeline. Besides processing ethylene into commodity polyolefins, DRPIC says the complex will produce chemicals new to Oman including ethylene glycols, oxo chemicals and butadiene. (CONTINUED - 331 WORDS)
