Qatar Petroleum’s (QP) management is pressing ahead in reshaping the firm as it bids to become “one of the best national oil companies in the world.” This week saw the consolidation of Qatar’s LNG sector and QP become the exclusive marketer of all Qatari crude exports.

QP on 3 January announced the completion of the merger of Qatar’s two state-dominated LNG producers – Qatargas and RasGas. The process was first announced in December 2016 (MEES, 16 December 2016). The newly consolidated 77mn t/y Qatargas is now solely responsible for marketing Qatari LNG, which ought to streamline the sector. The new entity will be led by Sheikh Khalid al-Thani, a member of the ruling family and CEO of the former Qatargas company. (CONTINUED - 870 WORDS)
