Shell and Total are the two majors to have given US shale a wide berth. Shell is building on BG legacy assets in Brazil’s deepwater, snapping up three key ‘pre-salt’ blocks earlier this month.

Total is to partner Shell on one. The firms are also partners (20% each alongside operator Petrobras) at 360,000 b/d Libra where a declaration of commerciality is expected imminently.
